Sappho

Fragment 1 – To The Goddess of Love

I love, I burn, and only love require,
And nothing less can quench the raging fire.
What youth, what raving lover shall I gain?
Where is the captive that should wear my chain?

Fragment 155, loose translation by Michael R. Burch

A short transparent frock?
It’s just my luck
your lips were made to mock!
